What does "free" mean at Screencap?
It means you can use the whole product without paying or entering a card. Here is what that covers today.

- Price: Free. There is no paid plan and sign-up needs only an email address.
- Watermark: None on your recordings or exports.
- Recording length: No limit at the time of writing.
- Storage: No limit on how much video you keep at the time of writing.
- Quality: Up to 4K in the Mac app.
- Editing: The Studio editor is included.
- Sharing: Share links that play in any browser.
"Today" is deliberate. Our Terms reserve the right to set limits or add paid plans, and say we will try to tell you in advance. We will not charge you for anything without asking first. The pricing page shows the current limits.
Is there a watermark on free recordings?
No. Screencap adds no watermark to your recordings or to the files you export.
How long can you screen record for free?
There is currently no limit on how long a recording can be. There is also no limit on how much video an account can store. Normal acceptable use rules still apply, so Screencap is not a general file host.
Can I record in 4K for free?
Yes, in the Mac app, and it is a setting you switch on. Instant mode defaults to 1080p at 30 fps.

- Open Settings in the Screencap Mac app.
- Choose Recording quality.
- Pick 4K. The choices are 720p, 1080p, 1440p and 4K.
The result is limited by the screen or area you record, so a 1080p display cannot produce real 4K. Studio mode records at your display's native size and at 60 fps by default (30 fps when the camera is on). Recording in the browser is about 1080p at 30 fps.
What do I get in the Studio editor?
Studio mode records locally at full quality, then opens an editor. You can split and delete clips, add smooth zooms that follow your clicks, restyle the cursor, set a background, and blur private areas. You can generate captions on your device and export them as SRT or VTT. Export as MP4 or GIF, to a file, the clipboard or a share link (GIF cannot go to a link).
How do share links work?
Each recording gets a link that plays in any browser, with view counts and comments. New recordings are open to anyone with the link, so switch a recording to private or add a password before you send anything sensitive. Our guide to sharing privately has the steps.

What does cost money?
Transcripts, AI titles, summaries and chapters run on your own OpenRouter account, so they cost money there. Settings shows each model's price per hour of video before you choose. Screencap adds nothing on top, and without a key everything else works as usual. The pricing page has the details.
