Screencap is a free screen recorder that can put your face in the recording. On a Mac, pick a camera before you record. In the browser you can record just the camera, or a camera bubble over your screen where picture-in-picture capture is supported. Studio mode keeps the camera on its own track, so you can resize or hide it later.
- You start a screen recording. At first it is only the screen.
- Pick a camera. Your face joins the recording.
- Change how the camera looks. In Studio mode you can resize or hide it after recording.
- Camera only records just you, with no screen.
- Back to screen and camera. In Studio mode a Scene track switches between the two.
How do I screen record with my webcam on a Mac?
Choose a camera in the Screencap Mac app, then record as usual. In Studio mode your face is captured as its own track beside the screen, so you can adjust it afterwards.

- Open the Screencap Mac app and choose a mode. Pick Studio if you want to edit the camera afterwards.
- Choose what to capture: a display, a window or an area.
- Select your camera in the camera picker. Your Mac's built-in camera, or a webcam you plug in.
- Pick your microphone in the microphone selector so your voice is recorded with your face.
- Press record. Allow camera and screen access if macOS asks. Press stop when you are done.
Studio mode saves the camera as a separate track, which is what makes the editing options below possible. Instant mode gives you a share link the moment you stop. Both modes are free.
Can I record just my webcam?
Yes. Camera Only is one of the capture targets in the Mac app, next to Display, Window and Area. The browser recorder has a Camera only mode too.
Use it for a video message, an introduction or a talk to camera where nothing on screen needs to be shown.
Can I screen record with my face in the browser?
Yes, in Chrome or Edge, from screencap.co. This works on Windows, Linux and Mac, with nothing to install.

Pick a camera and the recorder opens a small picture-in-picture window. When you record your full screen, that window is captured as your camera bubble. If your browser cannot capture picture-in-picture, your camera shows only on the Screencap recorder page. The Mac app is the better choice when the camera must appear over every window.
What frame rate does a webcam recording use?
Studio mode records at up to 60 fps, and drops to 30 fps when a camera is on. Instant mode records at 30 fps. Browser recording asks for about 1080p at 30 fps.
For a face and a screen walkthrough, 30 fps is smooth. If you need 60 fps for fast motion on screen, record without the camera.
Can I edit my webcam recording?
Yes, in Studio mode on the Mac. The editor has a Camera tab where you set the camera size, add a shadow, change its size during zoom, or hide it.

A Scene track lets you switch the layout between your screen and your camera, so a recording can open on your face and move to the screen. You can also split and delete clips, add auto-zoom on clicks and export as MP4 or GIF.
How do I get a good picture and sound?
Light and sound matter more than the camera. These changes cost nothing.
- Face the light. A window in front of you beats a lamp behind you.
- Frame your eyes in the top third of the picture and look at the lens when you talk.
- Pick a better mic in the microphone selector. A headset or external mic sounds clearer than a laptop mic.
- Test for ten seconds and play it back before a long take.
See screen recorder with audio for the microphone and system sound switches.
