Transcripts and AI summaries
Screencap can write a transcript of each recording, plus a title, a summary and chapters. These run on your own OpenRouter account, so you only pay for what you use, at OpenRouter's prices.
- Open Settings Then go to AI & transcription.
- Connect OpenRouter Click Connect OpenRouter, or paste an OpenRouter key.
- Pick your models Choose speech-to-text and summary models. Each shows its cost per hour of video first.
You pay OpenRouter directly
Screencap adds nothing on top.
Your key stays yours
It is stored encrypted, used only for your own recordings, and deleted when you remove it.
Privacy option
Turn on Zero data retention to use only providers that don't keep your audio or transcripts.
Optional
Without a key, nothing is sent anywhere. Screencap works as usual, just without transcripts and summaries.

Is it really free?
Yes. There is no paid plan and you don't need a card to sign up.
What does a transcript cost?
It depends on the models you pick on OpenRouter. Settings shows the cost per hour of video for each one, and a 5-minute recording costs a twelfth of that.
Can the limits change?
If we ever need to set limits, we will say so on this page and give notice first, as our Terms describe.
