If you see a recording on Screencap that breaks our Acceptable Use Policy or infringes your copyright, tell us. This page explains how.
Urgent safety
If someone is in danger, contact your local emergency services first. Do not wait for us.
If you find child sexual abuse material, report it to us and also directly to NCMEC's CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org.
How to report a recording
- Press the Report button on the recording's share page, or
- email [email protected] with the link to the recording and a short note on what is wrong.
You do not need an account. Giving your email address is optional, but it lets us confirm we received your report, ask follow-up questions and tell you what we decided.
Encrypted recordings
Some recordings are end-to-end encrypted, and we cannot watch them. If you are reporting one, include the full link, which ends in #k= followed by a long code, or tick the box in the report form that includes the key. That lets us review the recording. Without the key we can still act on your report, but we cannot see the recording.
What happens next
A person reviews every report, normally within 2 working days, and sooner for urgent safety issues. We may remove the content, suspend or close the account that posted it, and report illegal material to the authorities.
If you gave your email address, we email you when we receive your report and again when we have decided. We tell you whether we took action, but not the details, to protect everyone's privacy. If you disagree with a decision, reply to that email or write to [email protected] within 6 months and a person will look again. If you live in the European Union, you can also use an out-of-court dispute settlement body certified under the Digital Services Act, or go to a court.
If we remove your recording or restrict your account, we email you the reason and how to appeal.
Copyright: sending a DMCA takedown notice
Send your notice to [email protected] with the subject "DMCA notice". Under 17 U.S.C. 512(c)(3), a notice needs to include:
- Your physical or electronic signature (a typed full name is fine), as the copyright owner or someone authorised to act for them.
- A description of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed.
- The exact link to the recording that you say infringes, and enough detail for us to find it.
- Your contact details: name, postal address, email address and, if you have one, telephone number.
- A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or are authorised to act for the owner.
Knowingly making false claims in a notice can have legal consequences, including liability for damages. Please consider whether the use might be fair use before you send one.
Our designated agent for notices is reachable at [email protected].
Counter-notice
If we removed your content because of a DMCA notice and you believe that was a mistake, you can send a counter-notice to [email protected] with the subject "DMCA counter-notice". Under 17 U.S.C. 512(g)(3), it needs to include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- The material that was removed and where it appeared before removal.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good faith belief the material was removed because of a mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, postal address and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for the district where your address is (or, if outside the United States, any judicial district where Dharma Loop LLC can be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice or their agent.
When we receive a valid counter-notice, we send it to the person who made the original notice. If they do not tell us within 10 business days that they have filed a court action, we may restore the content after 10 and no later than 14 business days.
Repeat infringer policy
We close the accounts of users who are repeat infringers. An account that receives three valid copyright notices, or one notice for clear and deliberate infringement, will normally be closed. A counter-notice that leads us to restore a recording does not count against the account. People whose accounts we closed for repeat infringement may not sign up again.
